The Birmingham City Community Trust delivers one of the most diverse and comprehensive educational football programmes in the country.

16 – 19 Football and Education programme

The programme is designed for young people aged between 16 and 19, with a minimum entry requirement of 2 GCSE’s for our level 2 pathway and four GCSE’s at grade 4 and above for our Level 3 qualifications. Our educational package allows those who wish to pursue a career in the sports industry to gain the relevant qualifications, combining a full-time football programme delivered by UEFA ‘A’ and ‘B’ licensed coaching staff as part of your full-time study.

 

Pathway 1: BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Performance

For those learners who are primarily more academic in learning with the possible ambition of going to University as an option on completion.

  • Two-year qualification, full-time programme
  • Entry requirement 4 GCSE (of which English and Maths grade 4 and above should be part of)
  • A total of 4 external exams
  • 3 Practical Training Sessions per week
  • Represent BCFC CT based on ability in EFL Community Alliance League/ College League
  • GCSE Resits available as an entry requirement if required
  • Potential job opportunities within the BCFC Community Trust and beyond

Pathway 2: Sports Coaching/ Development Level 3

For those learners who are more practical in their approach to learning. These people are usually looking for careers in coaching, youth work, youth development even social services – using sport as a means to meet any needs in the wider community.

  • One-year qualification, full-time programme
  • Entry requirement 3 GCSE (of which the candidate should have at least English or Maths of grade 4 and above)
  • 3 Practical Training Sessions per week
  • Represent BCFC CT based on ability in EFL Community Alliance League / College League
  • GCSE Resits available as an entry requirement if required
  • Three qualifications as a package
  • Potential work/ work placement within the BCFC Community Trust and beyond

Pathway 3: BTEC Level 2/ NVQ in Activity Leadership Certificate / Sports Coaching

For learners again who are more practical-minded and with the objective of providing them with basic qualifications that can put them on the career ladder within the sporting industry. 

  • One-year qualification, full-time programme.
  • Entry requirement 2 GCSE of which one needs to be in English. Should you not receive the grade, you will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
  • 3 Practical Training Sessions per week.
  • Represent BCFC CT based on ability in the EFL Community Alliance League/ College League
  • GCSE resits will be automatically based on your results.
  • Work placement.

Pathway 4: Foundation Degree

What is the programme? The Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Community Football Coaching and Development was launched in April 2018 in partnership with the EFL and University of South Wales.

Who is it aimed at? The degree is designed for higher education learners who wish to gain employment within the coaching, teaching or sports development industry.

Where is the degree taught? Online classes are based at St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium through online platforms but all lectures are facilitated by a qualified teacher and club mentor. All lectures are delivered in the club’s corporate boxes which offer learners an outstanding view of the pitch.

Come along to an open evening at St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium on the following dates to find out more:

Monday 9th December 2019 6:30pm-8:00pm

Monday 3rd February 2020 6:30pm-8:00pm

Monday 6th April 2020 6:30pm-8:00pm

Who is it for? These days are aimed at classes of up to 30 primary school children in the local community. BCFC staff will deliver interactive learning workshops to young people between the ages of 5 and 11 years. Each session will cover core curriculum such as numeracy, literacy, health and wellbeing and nutrition. The sessions will take place at St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium.
