Blues to face Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup

Blues have been drawn away against Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup First Round.

The tie will be played during the week commencing 12 August.

Pompey missed out on League One promotion last season in the Play-Offs after winning the EFL Trophy.

Kenny Jackett's side took Viv Solomon-Otabor on loan last season, as well as ex-Blues loanee Omar Bogle.

Blues last trip to Fratton Park was in March 2012 when Chris Hughton's side lost 4-1, with the opening goal coming from Nikola Zigic in a match that saw David Murphy sent-off.

Prior to that, in 2010, Alex McLeish's team lost an FA Cup Quarter-Final 2-0, when Liam Ridgewell had a perfectly good goal disallowed, and then won there 2-1 three days later in the Premier League with Cameron Jerome bagging both.

Tonight's draw was staged by the EFL at Morrisons in Colindale, London.

Blues, the 2011 winners, were in the Southern Section and were the last team to be drawn, by Ray Parlour.
