Blues Under-23s face Hull City Under-23s at the Trillion Trophy Training Centre on Friday (1.30pm).

They will be out to secure a fifth straight victory that will keep them top of the PDL North.

They have edged ahead of Nottingham Forest due to goal difference, although the Reds have played two games less.

Blues won 1-0 at Crewe Alexandra on Monday afternoon, with Miguel Fernandez netting his sixth goal of the campaign so far.

Blues created good chances to have made it more comfortable and allowed Crewe the sniff of an equaliser in the final quarter of the contest.

"I would say it was competent rather than spectacular," reflected Steve Spooner's on the Development Squad's performance. "They did what they had to do.

"I was very happy with the way the lads competed. Our individual responsibility was good.

"At times I thought we were a bit loose with the ball which brought pressure on ourselves when we didn't need to.

"And then - just part of their development - they've got to learn when to close games down. We could have been a bit more streetwise.

"But that's picking at bits. It was a massive positive that we came to a hard place and won, keeping a clean sheet."

Blues will check on Geraldo Bajrami, Ryan Stirk and Caolan Boyd-Munce, all of whom were on Under-21s international duty this week.

Blues have kept four clean sheets on the spin, an aspect that has pleased Senior Professional Development Coach Spooner.

"It's about concentration.

"The boys from the back have a responsibility to get us started with the ball and then when it leaves them it's about being tight and compact.

"But equally when the games turns over and the opposition have got it in their back four, it's important that we defend in the right way.

"Then it's about tactics and players listening to the tactics when you are playing against a particular shape.

"Like all things, if you got two or three games winning and without conceding, you gain confidence from it.

"Football can come and kick you in the teeth. You don't get too carried away. It is about their learning and development, they are showing that every game."
