This specialised course is provided in partnership with The University of South Wales and the EFL Trust. To find out more why not join us on Monday 9 December, 6pm, for our next open day?
The course allows learners to study all sub-disciplines of coaching and football development whilst gaining valuable industry-recognised qualifications. Covering a wide variety of skills in children and youth coaching, football coaching, football development, social inclusion and sports management skills.
You will complete your degree at St. Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium with all lectures, seminars and tutorials being delivered online with the support of our degree mentor, Harry Basra. This is an extensive work-based learning programme meaning you will be able to tailor your path to the specific roles you are interested in whilst working on real-life football projects.
By the end of the course, you will gain a Level 2 Football Coaching Certificate alongside invaluable and unique experiences of local community coaching.
Recent graduates have gone onto join the team here at Blues in such roles as Football Development Coach, Women’s and Girls Football Officer, Social Inclusion Support Coach and NCS Team Leader.
Hear from our first-year student Callum McGregor:
I joined the Community Football, Coaching and Development Foundation Degree in September 2019. First hearing about the course online, I was excited by the modules that were on offer and keen to find out more information. I expressed my interest and had an interview with the Education Manager. The support from staff in the initial application process was great – all my questions were answered promptly, and I was kept in the loop at all time.
As part of our induction, all Degree Delivery Staff and Students attended a residential Freshers trip to Cardiff. This was the first time I met my course mates as well as our Group Mentor, Harry Basra. It was a fantastic experience and I instantly felt part of the team. Our daytime was spent at the University of South Wales, attending induction lectures, getting to grips with the course content, volunteering aspect of the degree and the expectations of us as learners. The evenings were dedicated to downtime and socialising. We were given the independence to explore Cardiff City Centre and relax.
Beginning the academic side of this course in September has been exciting! Our classroom overlooks the Pitch at St. Andrew’s which is incredibly inspiring and acts as great motivation for me. We have been provided with great opportunities to further our education development as well as work experience and life skills.
I am currently volunteering on the CARS Programme which offers free football sessions to local young people between the ages of 8 and 14. My role includes leading warmups, training activities, organisation and admin duties.
I'm very happy with what Birmingham City FC Community Trusts’ Foundation Degree has so far offered me, I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
