Alen is a player who will help us a lot.Aitor Karanka
The Blues Head Coach broke the news about the talented midfielder to the media during his pre-match press conference before our trip to Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship.
Having signed in November, Halilović has been made to hold fire on his Blues bow as he awaited international clearance.
But with all the necessary clearance received, Karanka could not disguise his delight for the team and the 24-year-old.
The Head Coach said: “He is finally available! The FA had a few problems to find his clearance, but finally everything has been done and he is ready to play.”
Karanka went on to detail what he believes the former Barcelona and AC Milan player can offer but suggested a sensibly cautious approach will be taken to his introduction.
“Alen is a player who will help us a lot”, he explained. “The number ten position has been key all my career and he is a proper number ten.
“We just need to be patient with him, and we had the best example [of this] with Mikel San José when he didn’t play, so we have to find the right time for him because he has been out for a while and I need to take care with him. But when he is good, he will help us out a lot for sure.”
With the Croat, who has a collection of senior international caps to his name, available for action, Karanka also feels confident that he will achieve his ambition to deliver a settled team for Blues fans to enjoy.
“Now with Alen, with almost every single player in the squad fit to play, I will try and find the best one because I am someone who would prefer not to change the team every single week.”
