The 41-year-old has chosen to undertake a similar role with A.F.C Sunderland and leaves having overseen Blues’ youth football development programme for the past 14 years.
Formally an Academy Coach at Derby County FC, he has been on the coaching staff at Blues since 2006 and was promoted to the key role of Academy Manager in January 2011.
Blues CEO, Dong Ren, would like to place on record his thanks on behalf of the Club.
“Kristjaan has been a fantastic servant to the Club both during my time here, and in the many years prior,” said Ren. “He has demonstrated an unquestionable dedication and commitment to the role and has worked tirelessly to move the Club forwards.
“His depth of knowledge and expertise in the field of development football has considerably enhanced the reputation of the Football Club.
“More recently, I have had the privilege of working closely with Kristjaan and although his time with us has come to an end, I would like to wish him every success in the future.”
Having spent the majority of his professional career with the Club, Speakman leaves with a heavy heart.
“After such a long period with the Club, it was always going to be a difficult decision to move on,” he explained. “I’ve grown up professionally and personally at Birmingham City and I could not have wished for a better experience.
“I’ve fortunately been exposed to some incredibly talented staff and players over the years who have always pushed me to learn and improve. They’ve provided the foundation for me to now accept this new challenge.
“I can’t thank the board enough. They have created room for me to grow within the existing structure and have always been a huge advocate of my work.
“For me, their backing has been the key to the success we have experienced with young players progressing through to the senior squad.
“I leave, very proud of my time at the Club and look forward to returning soon as a friend rather than a colleague.”
The Football Club would like to express their sincere gratitude to Kristjaan for his 14 years of service and wish him the best for his future endeavours.
