Young fan meets Blues hero for International Women's Day

In honour of International Women’s Day, Blues offered an inspiring response to a young fan having a difficult time at school.

8-year-old Lauren plays for Sister Club Halas Hawks and dreams of one day following in the footsteps of her hero, midfielder Lucy Staniforth, and playing for Blues.

Lauren is the only female footballer in her school and unkind remarks from bullies knocked her confidence and made her want to stop playing.

Lauren’s Dad Thomas, from Solihull, took to Twitter to ask for support and said that the bullies had damaged his daughter’s self-esteem.

Blues reached out to Thomas to arrange a special surprise for Lauren with Lucy Staniforth.

The devoted Bluenose was given an exclusive match pass to the SportNation.bet Stadium and treated to a behind-the-scenes tour.

Lauren was taken aback by meeting Kerys Harrop in the tunnel and the Captain gave her some inspirational advice about playing in an all boy’s league.

As she got closer to the changing rooms, the youngster’s smile changed to one of shock and awe as Lucy Staniforth walked through the door.

Greeted by a high-five, Lucy led Lauren into the changing rooms to meet the rest of the team.

The team rallied around the young Bluenose and were soon swapping stories about their experiences of playing the sport they love and not giving up.

To top it off, the England international presented Lauren with a pair of personally signed boots to mark the occasion.

In the true spirit of the Club, we are sure Lauren will keep fighting and one day be wearing the famous Royal Blue shirt.

Keep Right On, Lauren!
