The visitors sit tenth in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League after taking victory last time out against Tottenham Hotspur. Mana Iwabuchi’s first-half strike was enough to seal an important three points in their first win since facing Bristol City in December.
Our city rivals have picked up one win, one draw and three losses in their last five outings, this has coincided with the arrival of interim manager Marcus Bignot. They have scored 11 goals this season and conceded 30 in their 12 league matches.
In the Dugout:
Bignot is the visitor's interim manager. He was appointed in late January to replace Gemma Davies who retains a coaching role at the club. He fulfils the position alongside his duties as joint manager at Guiseley in the National League North.
The 46-year-old was previously Head Coach of Birmingham City Ladies and has since spent over a decade in the men’s game managing the likes of Solihull Moors and Grimsby Town.
During his playing days as a defender, he spent all of his career in England, turning out for QPR, Millwall and Crewe Alexandra amongst others.
One to watch:
Iwabuchi has scored two goals and got one assist since her arrival in the January transfer window. She joined the club from INAC Kobe Leonessa, who play their football in the WE League in Japan.
The Japanese international is known for technical ability and has lifted spirits since her arrival. She has previously spent time with Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich in Germany and has also won the Women’s World Cup in 2011.
Last time out:
Blues came out on top the last time the two sides met, with Claudia Walker’s late goal enough to pick up all three points at Villa Park. This was the first league meeting between the two sides with this season being our neighbours first campaign in the FAWSL.
