Blues face Everton in their next match.BCFC
Goals from Vivianne Miedema, Lisa Evans and a double from Caitlin Foord secured the points for the visitors.
Blues started the game positively and caused Arsenal some problems from a succession of corners. Holloway’s in-swinging delivery had to be tipped away by Lydia Williams, and from the resulting corner, Sarah Mayling’s delivery was eventually hacked away.
The visitors then threatened at the other end. Beth Mead’s delivery went all the way to the back post, Vivianne Miedema stooped low but her header came back off the woodwork.
Midway through the half, the visitors came close again, this time through Foord. The Australian chested it down inside the six-yard box but blazed over.
Foord, however, made no mistake with her next opportunity. She climbed highest at the back post and headed beyond Hannah Hampton.
Minutes later, the forward had her and Arsenal’s second goal. Mead advanced down the right and drove in a low cross that Foord tapped in.
Half-time: Blues 0 Arsenal 2
Some neat interchange between Harriet Scott, Mayling and Claudia Walker saw the ball end at the striker’s feet, but her effort was blocked.
Blues almost capitalised on an error from Leah Williamson, Ruesha Littlejohn played the ball to Mayling, who returned it, but Lotte Wubben-Moy got back to intercept.
Walker provided the Arsenal defence with a different threat in the second half, causing them problems and creating opportunities for the Blues attack.
The Gunners grabbed a third with ten minutes left. Miedema worked an opening on the edge of the area and powered an unstoppable effort past Hampton.
Late in the game Blues had shouts for a penalty dismissed. Scott played a ball into the area and Littlejohn appeared to be fouled, but the referee played on.
Lisa Evans scored a fourth late on. The Scottish winger received the ball from Miedema and powered the ball into the far corner.
