Blues picked up an important point on the road against Everton in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League on Sunday afternoon.

A free-kick from Dan Turner had given Everton the lead, but Jamie-Lee Napier’s first goal for the club secured a point for Carla Ward’s side.

A positive start from Blues saw the first chance fall the way of Napier. Emily Murphy took on her marker and played a ball into the middle, but the Scottish attacker could not make a strong enough connection to threaten Tinja-Rikke Korpela.

The Toffees took the lead with their first chance of the game. Left-back Turner stepped up to fire a free-kick into the bottom corner.

Valerie Gauvin was played in down the right, but Becks Holloway used her pace to get back and make a crucial block to deny the French striker.

The referee gave Blues a penalty just after the half-hour mark when an Everton defender handled in the area. Walker stepped up but Korpela got down well to make the save.

However, Napier reacted quickest to the ‘keeper's spill and poked the ball into the back of the net.

Half-time: Everton 1 Blues 1

Everton applied pressure early in the second half, but Blues restricted them to a half chance. Izzy Christiansen took aim from the edge of the area but her deflected effort was easy for Hannah Hampton to gather.

17-year-old Ruby Mace was making her debut at the back for Blues and, along with the rest of the backline, defended resiliently throughout the game.

Jill Scott climbed from a corner, but her header drifted well wide as Everton began to try and force the ball in.

Blues almost caught Everton out late on but Korpela recovered to claim. Mace played a long free-kick into the box, Walker flicked it on, but the Toffees stopper managed to get back to gather the ball

Ruesha Littlejohn was next to have a go. The Irish international created a bit of space on the edge of the area, but her effort just went past the post.
